Iconic World War II B-17 in Las Cruces
If you ever wanted to fly in a piece of World War II history, now is your chance.
The iconic World War II B-17 bomber is at the Las Cruces International Airport.
The plane is owned and operated by the Experimental Aircraft Association. It was built in 1936 and able to hold 1,700 gallons of gas and 10,000 pounds of bombs.
On Thursday, WWII veteran 94-year-old Robert Shade went for a ride in the plane for the first time in 70 years.
Shade spent 3 months flying in B-17’s during his training in Iowa. Once he left to fight in the war, he flew a B-29.
The plane will be in Santa Teresa at the Doña Ana County International Jetport next week.
