11-month-old baby, son of EPPD officer, drowns in bathtub
The El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons unit is investigating the accidental drowning of a police officer’s son.
It happened at about 9pm Tuesday at 3334 Zion, police said.
Police officials say a police officer was bathing his baby in a bathtub.
The infant was left alone in the bathtub and when the officer returned, the boy was “without signs of life,” police said.
Police say the father immediately began administering CPR and called 911 for help. The baby was transported to University Medical Center, where the child was pronounced dead.
Police did not say why the officer stepped away. Officials said the officer is a two-and-a-half year veteran of the police department. He was placed on administrative duty pending the results of the investigation.
