I-10 from Executive to downtown back open after 5 hour closure
I-10 from Executive Center to downtown is back open after a 5 hour closure.
Sunday I-10 was closed in both directions from Executive Center Blvd. to the Downtown exit.
The closure was supposed to start at 4 a.m. Sunday morning. ABC-7’s traffic cameras showed cars weren’t forced to get off the freeway until about 6 a.m.
The closure was expected to last until about 2 p.m. But the Texas Department of Transportation tweeted the freeway was back open at around 11 a.m.
Nonetheless, it caused quite the headache for some drivers, especially out of town drivers who say they weren’t expecting it.
“It’s crazy, yeah, it’s not very convenient,” one San Antonio woman said.
“We’re actually getting lost,” a California man said.
Police were set up at nearly every block down Mesa Street directing traffic and making sure things went smoothly.
The purpose of Sunday’s closure was so El Paso Electric could move overhead power lines from the Borderwest Expressway project.
