El Paso woman tackles shoe drive solo, sets high goal

An El Paso woman is hoping to make a difference, with shoes.

Jennifer Young plans to collect 5,000 donated shoes to give to Souls for Soles, an organization that sends shoes to people across the country and to 127 countries around the world.

“I just thought, why not?” Young said. “Everyone has old shoes. I don’t have a lot of money myself, but if I can do something to help, then why not?”

Young has collected 125 pairs of shoes and continues to spread the word to meet her goal.

All kinds of shoes are accepted including flip-flops and sneaker as long as they are gently-used.
