Alfonso Cedillo found not guilty on both counts of indecency with a child
The jury has found Alfonso Cedillo not guilty on two counts of indecency with a child.
The courtroom was filled with tears on both sides after the verdict was handed down. It was tears of joy for the Cedillo family, but it was quite different for the opposition.
“This has been going on for 6 years. It’s been hanging over he and his family’s head for this long,” Jim Darnell, Alfonso Cedillo’s attorney, said. “He was in school trying to get his degree to be a teacher. This stopped it. Now he can get on with his life.”
The jury left the courtroom to deliberate over Cedillo’s fate around 11 a.m. Friday morning. In under two hours, they reached the conclusion he was not guilty.
Both the state’s and defense’s attorneys gave their closing arguments Friday morning in front of the jury.
The defense based their argument on the fact everyone who he worked with, who he interacted with, trusted him. They painted the picture he always helped those who were bullies and stepped in to protect the weak. They said Cedillo was a protector.
However, attorneys’s for the State says Cedillo abused that trust. They painted the picture that he broke the trust of the kids he touched inappropriately. One attorney stating “The three kids did not expect that man right there would do.”
