El Paso in the Spotlight: Good or Bad Publicity?
It has been a busy week for the Borderland following President Donald Trump’s rally at the El Paso County Coliseum Monday.
The Sun City is still in the national spotlight.
Late-night television has been having fun with President Trump’s El Paso rally and there was one show in particular that even debuted a mascot.
A man dressed up as a wall could be seen interviewing people who were waiting to get into the El Paso County Coliseum.
ABC-7 tried to get an interview with the man, but we were told by a production crew that he doesn’t give interviews.
Turns out the mascot was all part of a prank for Comedy Central’s Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
The character’s name is Bricky the Border Wall.
The Daily Show introduces the character as the official mascot of President Trump’s border wall.
In the 5-minute skit that aired Thursday night, Bricky is shown pumping up the crowd of President Trump supporters and getting thrown out of the coliseum parking lot.
Bricky even paid a visit to the border fence overlooking the Border Highway.
Steffen Poessiger, Vice President of Advertisment Agency Mithoff Burton, says all the publicity El Paso has received following President Trump’s rally is good for the city, but there is a downside.
“The message is controlled by the media, so we don’t have control over what is being said,” Poessiger said. “But it is still eyes on El Paso and eyes on El Paso are a good thing right now.”
Poessiger says it was the people of El Paso who really helped the Sun City shine during this national event.
“Sure some of those shows made light of it, but at the end of the day I think El Paso really came out in a positive light,” Poessiger said. “We couldn’t pay for that type of publicity or a campaign like that.”
