El Paso woman dances ‘Electric Slide’ with therapists after recovering from 8 brain surgeries
EL PASO, Texas -- Jennifer Parker, 48, danced and slid into her graduation at The Hospitals of Providence Outpatient Therapy program Friday morning.
"When I was going through therapy, the most important thing is there was just an inner battle of beating my best," she said after recovering from eight separate surgeries due to a brain aneurysm.
Parker's one goal was to dance to the song "Electric Slide" with her therapists after the aneurysm left her in a wheelchair two years ago.
She had to relearn everyday functions such as walking, talking and writing.
Parker says her therapy was a rebirth and "a new appreciation for what it means to be a person."
"She never said no, ever!" said Victoria Nunez, a physical therapist at Hospital of Providence. She recalled Parker's therapy as something she's never seen before: "Every two months was just a new story and a new goal and a new advancement."
Parker is planning to continue her exercises by getting a gym membership at Planet Fitness.
