ASHEVILLE, NC (WLOS) — Ingrid’s Food Pantry held its seventh annual “Turkey Giveaway” on Saturday, Nov. 23, an event that provides dinners to families in need around the mountains on a first come, first serve basis.

Pantry staffers said all the donated food goes to families who need a little help this time of year and the event brings community volunteers together.

“It’s just such a blessing to me and our community, and it’s such a community adventure,” Daniela Wells, the food pantry’s founder and president, said. “But I have the best volunteers on the planet, and I have gotten to meet so many great people who are like minded who feel the way that I do”

Staffers said the program has come a long way in the past seven years. Back in 2012, they said they were able to serve fewer than 10 meals. On Saturday, more than 100 people were served.

Ingrid’s Food Pantry is a nonprofit charity dedicated to eliminating hunger by providing healthy food and comfort.

The pantry is located at 718 Haywood Road in Asheville and they are open every other Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
