Flights resume, some power restored in New Orleans after Ida

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Commercial flights have resumed in New Orleans and power has returned to parts of the business district in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. The progress comes four days after the storm slammed into the Gulf Coast. But electricity, drinking water and fuel remain scarce across much of a sweltering Louisiana. Meanwhile, the remnants of the system walloped parts of the Northeast, dumping record-breaking rain in a region that had not expected a serious blow. The storm killed at least 46 people from Maryland to New York. The death toll in the South rose to at least 13. New Orleans fared better than many other places because of the levee system that was revamped after Hurricane Katrina.
