PARIS (AP) — French President Emmanuel Macron has burst into the presidential race with an explosive remark about the country’s minority of unvaccinated people. Macron used the French word “emmerder” that is rooted in the French word for “crap” and means to rile or to bug. He spoke in an interview published by French newspaper Le Parisien on Tuesday night as lawmakers debated new measures that would allow only vaccinated individuals to enjoy leisure activities like eating out. Macron said “The unvaccinated, I really want to bug them.” His salty language dominated news broadcasts Wednesday. Macron also expressed his desire to run for reelection in April’s presidential vote. Yet he said he is still waiting to formally declare his candidacy because he wants to focus on the virus crisis first.
