Be Mindful: Factors that contribute to suicide risk

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Conditions like depression, anxiety, and substance problems, especially when unaddressed, can increase the risk for suicide.

There’s no single cause for suicide. Depression is the most common condition associated with suicide, and it is often undiagnosed or untreated.

Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the united states.

According to the American Psychiatric Association it is the second leading cause of death for people aged 10 to 34.

There are a range of risk factors. The individuals, relationship, community, and societal levels can increase suicide risk.

These risk factors are situations or problems that can increase the possibility that a person will attempt suicide.

Not everyone shows the same signs that they’re thinking about suicide.

If you or someone you know is feeling suicidal, call 988, the suicide and crisis lifeline.

This government hotline connects individuals in suicidal crisis to their nearest suicide prevention and mental health service provider.
