UPDATE: El Paso Fire Chief Mario D'Agostino told City Council on Monday morning that people who are asymptomatic - meaning they show no signs of any virus symptoms - may also get tested at the sites listed below.

ORIGINAL REPORT: EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The state of Texas is partnering with El Paso to increase coronavirus testing in the region.

Four mobile sites will launch this week to provide free testing to those presenting COVID-19 symptoms and to those in high-risk groups.

“Due to the recent spike in COVID-19 positive cases and deaths, I contacted Governor Abbott on Friday for assistance with more testing capacity and hot-spot epidemiology analysis,” El Paso Mayor Dee Margo said in a statement. “He agreed to send his Rapid Response Team to El Paso immediately, and they arrived Saturday to begin supporting our Public Health team. I’m gratified with his support of El Paso.”

The city reports that testing through the Department of Public Health and private labs has increased roughly 32 percent in El Paso since early April. The goal of the new mobile sites is to make testing more accessible to other neighborhoods.

The testing will be drive-thru only. Individuals are asked to make an appointment 24 hours in advance by calling 512-883-2400 or visiting www.TXCOVIDTEST.ORG. If an individual is not registered for an appointment, they can show up at a testing site and workers will guide them through registration.

Testing locations vary by date.
