Some Texas gyms begin to reopen with limits

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Some gyms in Texas begin the process of reopening Monday, but business won't look as usual.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordered gyms and exercise facilities could reopen Monday if operating at 25 percent capacity. The governor also issued minimum recommended health protocols for these facilities.

The guidelines state that equipment must be placed 6-feet apart so as to ensure social distancing. Employees must be screened before they're allowed into the facility and cleaning products must be available throughout the facility.

Some gym owners say they're ready to make the necessary changes.

Daniel Alvarado, who owns PUSH Fitness, says he feels ready and confident to reopen.

"We have gloves available for clients who don't have gloves. Hand sanitizer," Alvarado said.

Alvarado has made class sizes smaller. He says he's thankful he has the space to accommodate social distancing in his facility.

"Once we reach maximum capacity, we'll put the other people outside," he said. "We have enough flexibility and if worst comes to worst we'll have to let people know they'll have to wait until the next class."
