Otero County Prison surpasses 700 virus cases, while Doña Ana County reaches 760 infections

SANTA FE, New Mexico — Health officials in New Mexico reported 156 more coronavirus cases around the state Wednesday, along with four additional deaths.

That raised New Mexico’s total number of Covid-19 cases to 10,990 while the death toll reached 480.

Department of Health officials said 21 of the new confirmed cases were reported in Doña Ana County, where total infections grew to 760.

Of Wednesday's new deaths in the state, none occurred in Doña Ana County, which saw its fatality count jump to eight the day prior.

Officials also said 14 more of the new cases involved inmates at the Otero County Prison in southern New Mexico, where total infections from an outbreak at the facility now exceeded 700 by one.

Health officials said 4,984 people who had Covid-19 in New Mexico have recovered.
