El Paso surpasses 6,000 virus cases; 1 new death reported

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Department of Public Health reported one new coronavirus death and 196 new cases Wednesday morning.

The death toll now stands at 131. Officials identified the victim as a man in his 60s with underlying health conditions.

El Paso has now had 6,124 total known cases, of those 2,085 are currently considered active -- a new all-time high. The number of recoveries now stands at 3,908.

Hospitalizations also reached another new record-high, jumping from 160 to 177. There are currently 70 patients requiring intensive care, and 29 people are on ventilators - which is a decrease from the prior day.
