SANTA FE, New Mexico – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, citing her state's progress in slowing the spread of the coronavirus, on Thursday announced some eased Covid-19 restrictions that she said were aimed at providing more recreational options for families.

Here's what's new with the state's public health orders, effective as of Friday...

  • youth sports practices now permitted
  • camping for New Mexico residents at state parks now permitted
  • pumpkin patches, corn mazes haunted houses now permitted
  • ice skating rinks, swimming pools now permitted
  • masks must be worn in most instances, distancing is required, and people limitations are in place for the above activities

“These changes are hopefully an opportunity for families and kids to safely enjoy more activities. But we’ve got to keep making the right decisions – keep wearing face coverings, keep avoiding large groups and contact with others – and avoid a false sense of security," said Lujan Grisham.

She noted that the statewide 7-day rolling average of daily cases was at 90 as of Sept. 15, well below New Mexico's gating criteria target of 168. In addition, hospitalizations in much of the state remain significantly lower than earlier this summer.
