El Paso tops 14,000 active virus cases, hospitalizations at new high
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Department of Public Health reported two coronavirus-related deaths and 1,128 new cases Thursday morning.
It brings the death toll to 585 in El Paso County.
There are now 14,359 known active virus cases, which is a new record.
The number of hospitalizations increased from 908 to 934 -- yet another an all-time high. There are 245 virus patients in the ICU, which is also a record.
The City of El Paso originally scheduled a news conference at 1 p.m. to address the ongoing health crisis, but later cancelled it as officials said they were still reviewing data.
But El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego has scheduled a 5 p.m. announcement, at which time sources told ABC-7 he is likely to announce either more restrictions or some type of shutdown.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 45,039 confirmed cases with 29,856 reported recoveries - althoguh doctors note that some recovered persons still may face long-term health consequences.
