El Paso surpasses 2,600 confirmed virus deaths; 42 new cases

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Department of Public Health announced two new coronavirus-related deaths and 42 new cases Friday.

The latest deaths involve a man in his 60s and a woman in her 70s.

El Paso County's pandemic death toll now stands at 2,601. There are 22 additional suspected Covid-19 deaths currently being investigated by the health department.

El Paso health department data shows that 50.8% of El Pasoans 12 years and older are now fully vaccinated, with 65.1% having received at least one shot.

The number of known active coronavirus infections now stands at 1,442.

There were 82 Covid-19 patients in El Paso hospitals on Thursday, with 27 of those patients in intensive care units.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 135,804 confirmed virus cases in El Paso with 131,666 reported recoveries.
