Border Tuner: How to enjoy the interactive ‘bridge of light’ display between El Paso & Juarez
EL PASO, Texas -- They’re lighting up our sky and captured the attention of many: Six giant spotlights lining the U.S.-Mexico border, straddling the Rio Grande. Three in El Paso, three in Ciudad Juarez.
But what exactly are they? The Border Tuner is an art installation meant to shine a light on how the El Paso and Juarez communities are intertwined, but it's helping them connect in a new way.
The creation by artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer allows people to move the lights around and speak to someone on the opposite side when their lights connect.
Here's how you can enjoy the art.
The Border Tuner is on display until November 24 every night from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at Bowie High School in El Paso and Parque Chamizal in Juárez.
If you’re at home or on your phone you can actually go to BorderTuner.net and watch a live stream or even listen to the conversations being held as people connect their lights.
