Voters In 2 School Districts Go To Polls Tuesday
LAS CRUCES, NM. – Voters in two New Mexico schools districts will head to the polls Tuesday to vote ona handful ofproposed bonds.
In the Gadsden School District, there are two items on the ballot: a $38 million bond and a proposal to renew the $2 million dollar capital improvements tax levy.
Gadsden officials say it the bond passes, the money will be used to build new classrooms, renovate schools in the district and for major facility improvements.
Additionally, if the $2 million dollar levy capital improvement taxes were approved, it would also be used for maintenance around the district.
The district will get an additional $2 million from the state in matching funds if it passes. Neither of these proposals would raise taxes if passed.
In the Las Cruces Public School system, there is a chance to vote on a $60 million bond that also wouldn’t raise taxes if passed. That money would be used to build new schools and renovate existing ones.
Polls will be open from 7am to 7pm.
