Mexican Pop Group ‘RBD’ Headed Back To EP
EL PASO, TX. – A Mexican pop band that has caused near-riots in several cities, is making another stop in the Sun City.
The group RBD (Rebelde) will playing the El Paso County Coliseum on Friday night. However the band, which has sold more than 3.5 million albums, comes to town with some major security concerns.
Some are calling them the most popular Mexican band since the 80’s pop group Menudo, but not even they had these kinds of problems.
RBD fans have literally died to see their favorite group. Three were killed in Brazil two months ago at an autograph session.
Two weeks before that an eastside Wal-Mart shut its doors when more than 3000 fans of wreaked havoc. A few days later, there was a repeat performance in Dallas.
This Friday night, more than 7000 fans will pack the seats in the County Coliseum to see the 6 member group, and promoters assure the public that every one of them will be safe.
Lazaro Megret tells ABC-7 “Me and my company, the first thing we take into consideration is the safety of the public.” Brian Kennedy also says security is their number one concern.
Mr. Kennedy tells ABC-7, “We do have some extra sheriff’s, because we know this crowd is particularly excited about seeing this group, but there is really not a problem.”
Kennedy adds, “One of the things that happens is when they go to a place where nobody knows what they’re doing with security, like going to a convenience store or store to sign autographs…they’re not set up for it, they’re not comfortable with it. We’re set up for this on a regular basis.” but just in case, they’ll be ready.”
Mr. Megret says they’ve prepared for any situation, “We will have everything we need to take care of an emergency … the fire marshal will be here…the ambulance will be here…the paramedics will be here … So we are prepared.”
Concert promoters tell ABC-7 one of the precautions that they’ve never taken before is putting up a six-foot high stage. The normal stage height for a concert at the Coliseum is just four feet.
