Usage Terms Violated For LC Student Laptops
LAS CRUCES, NM — Las Cruces school officials tell ABC 7 they areconcerned by what they’re finding on computers that were loaned to middle school students for the year.
Officials with the school district have found evidence of pornography and illegal music. More than three-fourths of all laptop computersissued show students have violated signed contracts concerning the acceptable use policy.
Jo Galvan, the spokeswoman for Las Cruces Public Schools says the district is disappointed in the findings, and said the district will have to devise a plan to solve the issue. “Certainly there was going to be the risk that the laptops would’ve been used for other things,” she said.
“You have to suspect that it’s not a perfect system and it’s not a perfect world, and so unfortunately there are some problems that we need to deal with,” Galvan said.
Some 1,000youngsterswere issued laptops from Zia, Sierra, and Picacho Middle Schools.
Students from Zia have not handed their laptops in yet. The school district said it’s uncertain how many moreexamples ofusage violations will be found.
