Victims Speak Directly To Berry During Final Sentencing

EL PASO, TX. – The Theodore Berry murder trial came to an emotional close Wednesday, as victim impact statements were read during the formal sentencing.

The courtroom was packed as Mr. Berry sat silently and listened to the statements. At the same time family members from both sides cried in the background.

During Wednesday’s court proceedings, the judge formally sentenced Mr. Berry to life in prison for killing Officer Angel Andrew Barcena in September 2004.

During the sentencing, Mr. Berry was not wearing a suit, instead he sat shackled and stone-faced in an orange prison jump suit during the victim impact statements. For the first time, Barcena’s family members got the chance to speak directly to Mr.Berry.

It was standing room only in the courtroom as one by one Officer Barcena’s loved ones expressed their grief. One family member said he hopes the death of his cousin will serve as a warning signal to other people like Theodore Berry who battle with alcohol and anger.
