EP’s NASCAR Team Headed Back To Indy

EL PASO, TX. – It’s ‘Back to the Brickyard’ forEl Paso’sonly NASCARrace team.

Sun City businessman Gregg Jackson has put together another effort to qualify a car featuring a Sun City theme for NASCAR’s Brickyard 400.

Gregg Jackson tells ABC-7, “We want to help El Paso and we want El Paso to get excited about the efforts out there in NASCAR and become aNASCAR community.”

Two years ago, theRace El Paso team just missed making the Brickyard. Now,Mr. Jackson feels he’s got a much better chance of making the show. Jackson tells ABC-7, “Anytime you practice, you get better, and this is our second time out”

Mr. Jackson is teaming up with Front Row Motorsports out of North Carolina and Gary Trout Motorsports in Indiana. Jackson will tab either rookie Chad Chaffin or Mike Skinner to sit in the driver’s seat at Indy.

The car also has a hot new look, instead of green, Race El Paso will take its chances come August with red chile. On the hood, a new slogan as well: El Paso, sun, salsa and smiles.

The public’sfirst chance to see the car is at the El Paso Street Festival.

In addition to the exposure for the city, Mr. Jackson hopes to make a little money for the El Paso Diabetes Association through sponsorships.

RyanJackson, Gregg’s son, serves as Media Relations Director for Race El Paso thinks this could put El Paso on track with NASCAR.

Ryan Jackson tells ABC-7,”People don’t tend to think of El Paso for many unique things like this … So to get us in the national spotlight and get us some national exposure, I think it’s good all around.”

Additionally, Mr. Jackson is giving away a trip for two to the Brickyard 400 and a spot on the pit crew for the lucky NASCAR fan who enters the KVIA – Race El Paso “Why I should be on the Race El Paso Pit Crew” contest.

Details, rules and regulations regarding the contest will be revealed starting July 3rd, 2006.
