Clint Residents Engulfed In Mud After Recent Rains

EL PASO COUNTY, TX. — Heavy rains take a toll in East El Paso County. The precipitation over the last few days has caused hazardous driving conditions on rural roads and has left a muddy mess in some communities.

An area hit particularly hard is the town of Clint. Overnight showers caused a nearby arroyo to fill up. Some people in the area say a levee broke as a result, and that allowed more water to flood the area.

“Our lives here have been turned upside down right now,” one resident said. “We have no place to live, no electricity, no nothing.”

Entire yards are completely covered in mud. At one residence, a propane tank was almost completely buried in mud and debris.

Residents say the muddy mess has crept into some of their homes. “I have an 8-day-old baby,” said Nikki Boutwell, who lives in Clint. “This is the third time it’s happened to us and nobody wants to help, so what are we supposed to do?”

Clint officials are reporting no serious injuries as a result of the latest storms and flooding.
