Crews Work Overnight To Save Horizon City Houses From Flooding

HORIZON CITY, TX. — Crews workedthroughout the night tokeep a water disaster from happening.

With the recentheavy rains, a huge amount of water accumulated in a ponding area behind a rock wall in one neighborhood, near Horizon High School.

Onone side of the rock wall was a cul-de-sac with threeupscale homes.One the other side of the wallwasa large accumulation ofrain water ready to burst through.

“Apparently there is no drainage for that ponding area, eventually that rock wall would fall down and create a mudslide and all that water would be into our home,” said Angelica Vasquez.

Vasquez told ABC-7 the work crews finally started pumping the water out at midnight. Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded firstto the potential danger, but the ponding area is on the Socorro School District’s property, so district workerswere responsible for the job.

As of Saturday morning, the wall holding back the water held up, and there is no new property damage to report.
