Morning Crash In Canutillo Turns Fatal

EL PASO COUNTY, TX — Sheriff’s deputies has identified the victim of an early morning crash in Canutillo as 31 year old Juan Peralta from Anthony, New Mexico.

Peralta was a subcontractor working for the Dan Williams Company draining water.

A witness, who is an employee of ABC-7, reported to the scene at Third St. andTalbot St., and took a photograph of the crash.

According to eyewitnesses a big rig truck carrying a front loader was westbound on Talbot and was unable to stop. As the truck vehicle cameuponthe intersection of Third Street and Talbot, which was blocked off due to flooding, it struck two vehicles from behind.

A Chevrolet Silverado truck was struck and pushed into an electrical pole. A Mazda B2000 pickup truck was also struck and pushed onto 3rd street.

Unable to stop, the big rig continued westbound on Talbot/Transmountain and entered the floodedintersection of Doniphan and Transmountain. The intersection was beingcleared of water by a large pumper truck.

The workers assigned to the pumper truck saw the big rigtruck and ran away from the scene. Unfortunately one of the workers ran directly in the path of the oncoming big rig and was struck. The big rig continued through the intersection and came to rest in a large pool of water.

The worker died at the scene.
