Rattlesnakes Popping Up In Area

EL PASO, TX- With the recent downpour to hit the Borderland, humans aren’t the only ones being displaced by the flood waters.

Snakes and other critters are finding themselves out of their element and perhaps in residential areas.

With all the rain that Storm 2006 has brought to the area, one thing a lot of people are seeing, that they’ve never seen before, is snakes in their homes and in their businessess.

Roy Thibodeau, of Las Cruces Reptile Rescue, tells ABC-7, ” a lot of rattlesnakes are being displaced from their homes by all the rains and flooding.”

He adds, “These guys are real aggressive right now… they’re confused from the rain and its breeding season for rattlesnakes.”

Thibodeau warns residents, if they see a rattlesnake, stay calm and back away very slowly.

He adds, “Don’t harass a snake, don’t try to kill it, don’t try to play with it… just get out of its way and it will leave you alone.”

Another tip Thibodeau gives to residents, is to take a flashlight with you at night, just as a precaution.

If you happen to find a snake in your backyard, and you live in the Las Cruces area, you can call the Las Cruces Reptile Rescue at 505-373-1486.

Elsewhere, you can call the Dona Ana County or El Paso County’sAnimal Control.
