Dramatic Rescue In Radium Springs

Radium Springs, NM- Border Patrol agents take part in a dramtic rescue Tuesday afternoon on Highway 185, in the area of Radium Springs.

Officials tell ABC-7, a citizen approached the Border Patrol checkpoint located on Highway 185, north of Las Cruces, just after 1:00 pm.

According to reports, a woman appeared to be hysterical and disoriented when she reached the checkpoint. The woman stated that her husband and two small children were washed away into an arroyo from the Rio Grande River.

Two Las Cruces Border Patrol agents immediately responded to this area, when these agents arrived on the scene, they noticed a suburban in the arroyo at the rivers edge.

Agents who responded to the scene say the current was very strong and the water was significantly higher than normal.

They noticed a male subject was swimming in the water next to the vehicle, as the vehicle was spinning.

According to the agents,the man appeared to be attempting to get his small children out of the vehicle. The vehicle was repeatedly striking this subject as he was trying to get to his children.

The agents jumped into the water to assist.

A short time later, the agents rescued the male subject and his two small children.

The male was suffering from exposure and blunt trauma from being struck by the vehicle, and the two children and agents required medical attention for exposure.

The family was transported to an area hospital andeveryone involved in this rescue will be released after examination.
