Rain Ravages Some LC Streets, Residents Upset
LAS CRUCES, NM. – Residents in one neighborhood in the City of the Crosses awoke to nearly 200 tons of dirt covering their streets and sidewalks.
Residentsin theEast Mesaarea nearLas Cruces woke up Monday morning to dusty, drying-mud covered streets. While the rain pummeled the East Mesa just days ago, flooding arroyosleft a dirty, muddy mess right next to some homes.
Monday morning, neighbors and street crews began to brush and plow the nature-mademess away. Acrossthe cityin Mesilla Hills, the small road had enough dirt to fill 20 dump trucks.
Crewstell ABC-7they pushed 200 tons of dirt off the road while a tow truck cleared out vehicles caught in the storm. Some dirt was washed out from the side of the street, creating deep trenches that could take a car right off the road.
Oneworker told ABC-7, “A lot of these homes are built too close to the ravine. We’re constantly up here to get cars out that are flooded up to the fender. It’s a flood zone. That’s all this is, it’s a flood zone.”
Neighbors say that roadside curbing could prevent the dirt spill and the trenches after each rainstorm but so far, none have been built.
Dona Ana County officialstell ABC-7they’re aware of the constant flood problemin the neighborhoods and are working on a solution to the problems.
