Clint May Be Eligible For Flooding Aid
CLINT, TX. — ABC 7 has reported Clint area residents would not be eligible for FEMA disaster relief funding because their homes were pummeled by rain and floodwaters on July 28, some three days before the official start of the disaster.
However, assistance for flood victims in the town in East El Paso County may see some relief after all. According to the El Paso Times, Gov. Rick Perry has sent a letter to FEMA officials, asking them to push the official start of the disaster back to the 28th of July, to allow Clint to make claims for disaster relief.
The Times reported Saturday that Perry is requesting the extension because he received a letter from officials in El Paso County asking him to do so.
FEMA spokesman Earl Armstrong told ABC 7 the only requirement the agency needed to reconsider the disaster start date would be a request from the governor.
Heavy downpours in the final days of July overwhelmed a ponding area near the Clint landfill. Mud, trash, and medical waste swept through several nearby homes.
Piles of dried mud remain some three weeks later. Some mudpiles are as tall as heavy duty trucks.
