New Rains Renew Threats To Local Businesses

EL PASO, TX. — With steady rains pelting the El Paso area early Saturday, several businesses on the west side of town were in danger of flooding again.

ABC 7 spoke with several business owners who said they had a sense of frustration and disbelief that most of their merchandise has been ruined by extensive flooding.

One business hit hard is AnnieMo’s, owned by El Pasoan Annie Leutze. Leutze held a flood sale on Saturday. She told ABC 7 she wanted to unload some of her merchandise that she could no longer sell at market value.

“This is shocking,” she said. “This is shocking in El Paso and I think that it’s an amazing thing for El Paso to have this much water. It’s unbelievable and I really, really wish it would stop.”

Leutze said her business has sustained around $50,000 worth of damage since the severe flooding began on Aug. 1.

Another business owner said he was aware of two or three businesses that may have to close for good because they can’t financially recover from the damage.
