EL PASO, Tx. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents assigned to the Bridge of the Americas commercial cargo facility in El Paso seized 1,677 pounds of marijuana Tuesday.

The seizure was made after a tractor-trailer hauling a load of lighting fixtures entered the cargo compound from Mexico on Tuesday afternoon.

A CBP officer at the primary inspection booth directed the rig to the truck x-ray inspection system. CBP officers reviewed a scan of the truck noticed an anomaly in the appearance of the shipment.

CBP officers opened several boxes and found bundles of marijuana inside. The estimated street value of the seized marijuana is $1,677,000. Officials tell ABC-7 no arrests were made.

Along with the large cargo seizure, CBP officers at area ports made three additional marijuana seizures on Tuesday that netted an additional 227 pounds of the drug.

According to officials, the seizure is the second largest drug bust made at the El Paso port of entry this year.

CBP officers seized 1,744 pounds of marijuana from a commercial truck at the Ysleta crossing on July 10.
