Election Mailer For Rep. Dawson Neglects To Note She’s Dead
HOUSTON (AP) – A slick new campaign mailer shows a smiling state Representative Glenda Dawson of Pearland meeting with US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.
It reminds voters of Republican Dawson’s many notable achievements in education, economics and politics. What the ad doesn’t say is Dawson died in September.
Dawson’s campaign hopes the candidate will win re-election over Democrat Anthony Dinovo of Pearland. If Dawson wins the heavily Republican district, Governor Rick Perry is expected to call a special election open to all in mid-December.
A campaign official says Dawson’s daughter last month sent a letter noting her mother’s death and asking voters to continue to support the campaign.
Backers say the new flier is a tribute to Dawson and did not attempt to conceal her death, although there’s no mention of it on the mailed piece.
