LCPS Boss Receives Review From Board, Public
LAS CRUCES, NM. – LCPS Superintendent Sonia Diaz receives a performance evaluation from the district’s school board.
Since being hired, Dr. Diaz has been under a spotlight, but never brighter than Tuesday, asboth the LCPS school board and the public are weighing in on her performance so far.
While the school board began discussing Dr. Diaz performance late Tuesday, the public has been judging Dr. Diaz ever since she arrived.
Parents and district employees have told ABC-7 off camera that Dr. Diaz is “creating more tension in the schools…rather than repairing rifts…”
These complaints, as well as allegations ofthe waste of taxpayer money, are now surfacing in an online blog. Additionally, allegationsthat she hired a friend from her former Connecticut district to a high-level position without taking applications.
In speaking to ABC-7, Dr. Diaz denies any wrong-doing. She adds that the district’s money is spent responsibly and job openings are highly advertised.
As for the tension Dr. Diaz tells ABC-7, “Sometimes in order to create positive change, you have to create conflict…and when you shake individuals, there’s a sense of moving out of the comfort zone..but it’s hard for certain individuals…we’re trying to work with our staff here. We’re trying to work to impose on people the notion of it’s about serving the schools.”
As for the blog postings, Dr. Diaz says she takes all criticism seriously, but that it’s possible it’s only one or two people posting their own frustrations on the site.
