Officials Hopeful For 3rd Straight Sun Bowl Sellout
EL PASO, Tx. – With just three days to go until kickoff for the 73rd Annual Brut Sun Bowl, officials are hopeful for a 3rd straightsell-out
ABC-7spent part of Tuesdaymorning at the Sun Bowl’s west side offices and it was apparent from the number of people in line for tickets that the hope for a sellout is not unfounded.
Sun Bowl Ticket Manager Ellen Hughes, who has been in charge of the game’s ticket sales for the past fifteen years,tells ABC-7 that about 42,000 tickets have already been sold for Friday’s game.
Ms Hughesadds that ticket sales areon pace with the past two years, giving Sun Bowl officials hope for an unprecedented third consecutive sellout on game day.
According to Sun Bowl Executive Director Bernie Olivas another sellout is now on their wish list,and with a final pushit’s a very real possibility.
Mr.Olivas added,”We’re getting close this year…we’ve not quite there yet but we’d like a final push to get that thing sold out for the third consecutive year…that would be really great for the City of El Paso…it would tell the country what a great place this is when they see it on TV and see the full stadium.”
According to officials, with the Sun Bowl’s capacityat just over 51,000;attendance for thepast decade the game has averaged better than 48,000 fansper contest. Officials add that the 2004 crowd of 51,288 was the all-time attendance record for theannual game.
Fans can buy Sun Bowl tickets at the Sun Bowl ticket office off of Executive Center on the city’s west side andat all Ticketmaster locations. Special$15 end zone seats are also on saleat all Circle K’s.
