Jimmy And The Other 7 Listens E-Mailers

To Gary Warner
After watching the “ABC 7 Listens” segment for several years now, it is painfully obvious that you receive a lot of “shoot the messenger” e-mails. That is, people write negative reviews of your newscast when:
They do not like what you saidin a story.
They thought you were biased and unfair to the participants in the story.
They did not want to hear that particular story.
The story was inappropriate for them; therefore, no one else should hear it.
The subject of a story received apunishment that was too lenient, or too harsh and the news media is somehow blamed for the results they are reporting.
God did not cooperate with your weatherperson.
This can be a never ending list, but you get the idea. It seems that no matter how you report a story – someone is going to find fault, and complain.
News reportersdeliver bad news and good news. I personally do not like to hearbad news – but that’s life. I know when I turn on the news that is what I’m going to hear.Unfortunately, ABC 7 Listens has set themselves up to receive these “shoot the messenger” emails. ABC 7 Listens is the only channel in the Southwest that allows viewers to publically express their displeasure with the world around them, and with reporters who report events they do not want to hear. Kudos toABC 7 for allowing us to be a part of the news team. Kudos to the people who realize the messenger is not the problem.
So, for now, something completly different -“honoring the messenger.”
Thank you Gary, Estella and correspondents for presenting the news as-it-is in the best way you know how – truthful, unbiased, and with integrity. I have always found all of you to be sincere and honest – and most of all, totally human.
If there ever is a story I do not like I will hit the mute button or change the channel.
Maybe if everyone did that, you would receive more “honoring the messenger” e-mails like this one.
The ratings say you are the best at what you do. Keep up the good work.

P.S. In response to the Sunday night diatribe expressed against your weatherperson for getting a forecast wrong, I say “give me a break.”
Does your mommy still dress you in the morning? If you are so dependent on theTV weatherperson telling you how to live your life, you need to get burned a few times. Grow up, get a life. If you want a weather forecast go to http://www.srh.noaa.gov/elp/or call the local National Weather Service at (505) 589-4088. This is where all the TV stations confirms their predictions.Or better yet, go outside and stick a wet finger up in the air. You have a choice of which finger to use. Make your own decisions and stop blaming other people for “ruining” your life. And Gary Warner, stop making excuses for stuff you have no control over.
