Fort Bliss Soldier Killed In Baghdad

EL PASO, Texas (AP) – A Fort Bliss soldier has been killed in Iraq, the Department of Defense announced Monday.

Pfc. Jonathan M. Rossi, 20, of Safety Harbor, Fla., died Sunday in Baghdad from wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by insurgents using an improvised explosive device and small arms.

Rossi was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, at Fort Bliss, just outside El Paso.

According to Ft. Bliss officials, Spc. Rossi was an Infantryman who entered the Army from Tampa , Florida , June 14, 2005.

Rossi was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals. Rossi is survived by his father.

Postings on Rossi’s MySpace.com account give insight into his feelings of solitude andabout life on the war front. In one recent posting, Rossi posted questions andanswers to a survey he had recently taken.

They were:

Soldiers from the 4-1 BCT deployed to Southwest Asia in late October, early November 2006, to provide stability and security operations. This brings the total number of casualties sustained by the 4-1 BCT to 18.

The next memorial ceremony in honor of fallen Soldiers will be at 10am, Wednesday, July 18 in Soldier Hall.
