CBP Agents Find $370,000 Of Marijuana In Horse Trailer
LAS CRUCES, NM – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents found $370,000 worth of marijuana in a false compartment of a horse trailer Sunday morning.
Border Patrol agents seized the 464 pounds of marijuana from a Ford F-350 at a checkpoint on I-25. N.M. agents said the vehicle hauled a horse trailer with two horses and had a male and female occupant.
At the checkpoint, the agent made note of discrepancies in their direction of travel after a brief interview. A secondary inspection involving a Border Patrol canine alerted agents of hidden narcotics in the horse trailer.
A further search revealed 439 bundles wrapped in cellophane tape hidden in a false compartment in the floorboard. The couple was arrested immediately and released to the custody of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Throughout the fiscal year 2007, CBP agents in the El Paso sector have seized nearly $94 million of narcotics in 835 incidents.
