VP Dick Cheney Urges Support For War In Iraq

ALBUQUERQUE (AP) – Vice President Dick Cheney urged a group of Marines today to support the war in Iraq.

The vice president spoke at the 84th National Convention of the Marine Corps League in Albuquerque. The league is made up of active duty and former Marines. Cheney says now is not the time to lose heart and withdraw from Iraq, as some members of Congress have demanded.

He says that to quit the fight would be to lose, and that the consequences would be grievous. A group of about 15 protesters demonstrated outside the hotel where the vice president spoke. Some of them were asking Republican Senator Pete Domenici and Republican Congresswoman Heather Wilson to support ending the war and bringing the troops home.
