Police Still Searching For Clues In Shooting Of Dog
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Las Cruces Police are still trying to determine who shot and killed a pit bull terrier sometime around 8 p.m. Thursday, August 2nd.
Police were called to the 3300 block of Majestic Ridge by a resident who heard gunshots and discovered the dog wounded and in a puddle of water. The dog was attempting to keep its head above water so the resident picked up the dog and moved it to higher ground.
The brown and tan female dog, believed to be around 1-3 years of age, eventually died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds to her chest and shoulder. Police learned that witnesses who live nearby heard a man and woman arguing or talking loudly just prior to hearing gunshots. Witnesses then saw a silver or light-colored car leave the area.
Police are asking for assistance in identifying the individual responsible for killing the dog. Investigators also are trying to determine who owned the dog.
