Quick Storm In Fabens Leaves Severe Damage
EL PASO, TX. – A brief, but violent rainstorm swept through the Fabens area Monday afternoon just before 5 p.m. uprooting trees, tearing apart some roofs and drenching residents with water.
15-year old Miguel Rubio says when he heard the storm bringing down his roof the first thing he did was protect his parents and puppy. “We just looked outside, and the wind came through fast, like a tornado passing through, you can see the destruction that happened here.” The neighborhood is full of vivid images of destruction; houses flooded out, roofs peeled off homes.
If that wasn’t bad enough the insides of houses were virtually gutted.Rubio goes on to add, “whenI came through to check out what happened the second part [of the roof] was coming down.” Worst of all for many residents wasa feeling of helplessness and disbelief.
“It was windy, a lot of water, hail, couldn’t see a lot,” said another resident. Major clean up is now going to be needed to get the neighborhood back on its feet, butthe good newsis no one was injured as a result of the storm.
