City Budget Planners Want To Lower Residential Property Tax

EL PASO, TX. – Just a handful of El Pasoans were on hand to give their input on the proposed tax rate, which was tentatively adopted earlier this month.

While many who attended the meeting were concerned they’d have to pay more, City Representative Steve Ortega says that’s not the case for 60% of residential home owners. He says the city wants to shift the burden from home owners to commercial properties.

“Two-thirds of residential property owners will be paying less in taxes this year for the city thantheywere last year – that’s really important because what we want to do is we want to make sure to ease the burden on residential property owners.” Part Two of the public hearings concerning the city budget will be August 21st during the regular city council meeting.
