Pro-Action To Provide Immunization Services Outside City Limits

EL PASO, TX – Healthcare provider Pro-Actionwill expand to provide services in the outskirts of the county.

Recently, County Commissioners and City Representatives voted unanimously to grant the city government complete control of the City-County Health District, which they previously managed together.

The city government will now control animal control, vector control and immunizations under the new agreement. As a result, the county will now have to pay the city or hire a contractor to provide those and other services.

Pro-Action currently provides vaccinations to children and adults out of their downtown offices near the county courthouse. The healthcare provider only provides its services within the city limits and occasionally ventures to areas outside the city to provide services.

Danny Acosta, the Executive Director at Pro-Action, tells ABC-7 his company will nearly double its staff by hiring three more full-time employees. The change will be made in anticipation of the county hiring companies such as his to provide immunization services.

In the meantime, Pro-Action will study which areas of the county might need help. “Right now, we don’t know if anybody else does outreach in those areas, but we’ll be working closely with the schools and daycares, and other healthcare providers in the areas to see where we can fill the need,” stated Acosta.

Some areas the healthcare provider is looking at are Montana Vista, Tornillo, Fabens and Horizon City, according to Acosta. “There might be areas right now that need attention and are not being serviced right now…so we need to know if we can fill that gap.”

Yarely Rodriguez, a resident of Horizon City, immunizes her children at Pro-Action’s downtown offices. She likes the idea of having healthcare providers offer services to families living outside the city limits.”People over there come here (downtown) and it’s helpful to people who do not have health insurance.

Pro-Action provides childhood vaccinations for a flat rate of $10.
