FEMA To Hold Public Presentation On Proposed Flood Maps

EL PASO, TX – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)held a public presentation Wednesdayafternoon to explain the agency’s preliminary new flood maps.

The flood maps are expected to add thousands of properties to El Paso’s flood zone.

The homeowners with properties in the designated flood zone will be forced to buy flood insurance.

Officials with the agency said the flood maps will not be finalized until next year. Homeowners who purchase flood insurance now might get it cheaper than next year, they added.

Insurance rates might triple in price once the flood maps are finalized, officials added.

The meeting was held at City Hall this afternoon.
