Family Mourns Daughter Killed In Highway Crash
EL PASO, TX. – Part ofU.S. Highway54was closed downWednesday morningafter a deadly crashthat happenednear thehighway’soverpassat Fred Wilson just before 4 a.m.
Policesay 18-year-old Reyna Guerrawas driving north onU.S. 54, when she somehow lost control of her 2004 Honda Accord, crashed it through the guardrail, rolling down the embankment where it came to rest on Gateway Blvd. North below. Police say the woman was ejected from the car from the force of the collision even thoughshe was wearing a seatbeltand was killed.
ABC-7 talked to a witness of the crash who was driving on Gateway Blvd. North when the woman’s car crash-landed just feet from him. He says he called the police and tried to help the woman, but could tell just from looking at her that it was too late.
“I just saw the car flip off the freeway and it just landed right there, the bodyflew away. Everything just scattered everywhere” the unidentified man said. Healso said theGuerra was the only person in the car.
Police believe Guerra was travelling at a high rate speed when accident happened. “It’s important for everyone, but especially our younger drivers, our teenagers and young adults that are driving to remember that they’re not invincible. They can be killed in a traffic collision and you need to slow down to maintain control of the vehicle,” says EPPD spokesman, Chris Mears.
