NMSU Unveils New Chinese Cultural Center

LAS CRUCES, NM – Students at New Mexico State University will have the chance to learn more about Chinese culture through the campus’ new Confucius Institute.

University President Dr. Michael Martin unveiled the institute with Chinese Education officials Thursday. The program will teach the world’s fastest growing language, Chinese, and emphasize education of Chinese culture. Officials said they hope it will build cultural understanding between the U.S. and the People’s Republic of China.

“Certainly we want to be a bridge at NMSU to the larger world for this community, for the state, for this region and for this country,” Martin said. “This is part of that bridge.”

The university wants students to learn successful business and industrial ventures as well at the Chinese dynamic of improvement of the human world from Chinese culture.

NMSU has been teaching Chinese for three to four years. Chinese officials are also speaking with the Las Cruces public school system to possibly implement Chinese language education in the curriculum.
