El Pasoans Affected By ASARCO Want Next TCEQ Meeting Here

EL PASO, TX. -Dozens of El Paso residents and formerASARCO employeesare demanding the nextASARCO permit hearing be held here in the Sun City.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will soon hold its final hearing onASARCO’s air permit application. Those residents and formerASARCO employees say they’ve made the sacrifice of attending hearings in Austin, but say the next hearing should be held in the community it affects.

TCEQ’s executive director says the hearing cannot be held in El Paso because ofa lack of financial resources. The group will gather at theTCEQ’s regional headquarters downtown at 10:30a.m. Wednesday morning.
