‘The Burning Plain’ Film To Be Shot In New Mexico
SANTA FE, N.M.- Governor Bill Richardson today announced that The Burning Plain, a film from 2929 Productions (Good Night and Good Luck, Akeelah and the Bee, We Own the Night), will be shot in New Mexico.
The film, starring Charlize Theron, will be shot in and around Las Cruces from November 5 through December 21 and expects to hire approximately 75 New Mexico crew members and 800 local principal actors and background talent. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (Minority Report, Catch Me if You Can, The Island) will produce.
Executive producers are Todd Wagner, Mark Cuban, Charlize Theron, Alisa Tager, Ray Angelic and Marc Butan. Guillermo Arriaga, whose writing credits include Babel , 21 Grams, and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, will direct.
The Burning Plain explores the mysterious connection between several characters separated by time and space – Mariana, a 16 year old girl trying to put together the shattered lives of her parents in a Mexican border town; Sylvia, a woman in Portland who must undertake an emotional odyssey to make a sin from her past; Gina and Nick, a couple who must deal with an intense and clandestine love; and Maria, a young girl who helps her parents find redemption, forgiveness and love.
