Teen Arrested In Connection With Labor Day Auto Fatality
EL PASO, TX – A Canutillo teen is arrested after being released from William Beaumont Army Medical Center in connection with a traffic fatality on Monday afternoon.
19-year-old Jose Rasconwas hospitalized at William Beaumont Army Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and upon his release on Tuesday, September 4, was arrested by investigators. Investigators booked Rascon into the El Paso County Detention Facility on one count of Manslaughter and one count of Injury to a Child with a total bond of $350,000.
According to investigators, 33-year-old Rene Alarcon of the 3500 block ofMcKinley was driving a 2007 black Ford Focus with his girlfriend, 19-year-old Magdalena Nevarez and their infant daughter as passengers.
A preliminary investigation revealed Alarcon had the right of way when he entered the North Desert intersection. Witnesses stated 19-year-old Jose Rascon, driving a 1992 Honda Prelude, was driving fast and ran a red light. Rascon’s car “t-boned” Alarcon’s Focus, striking the driver side door.
Alarcon died at the scene, police say. His wife and infant daughter were transported to Thomason Hospital. The 2-week-old infant remains at Thomason in stable condition with minor head trauma, police officials add. The 16-year-old girl riding with Rascon was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
